Places to visit and enjoy in the Monsoon season

The Monsoon season is a beautiful time of lush greenery, waterfalls, overflowing lakes and rivers. It is one of the best times to enjoy nature as it is carpeted with greenery and beautiful sparkling waterfalls.

If you enjoy the rains, then these are some of the places that you must visit and explore.

1. Goa

Goa is one of the most beautiful places in the monsoon season. As the monsoon season is an off season time, you will get the best deals at real cheap prices. Both travel and stay is cheaper during this season. Even though most of the beach shacks are closed during this time of the year, there are enough places to enjoy, sit and relax. The sea is rough during this season so all the adventure water sports are stopped during this time of the year. One of the most beautiful scenes you can experience is to watch the heavy showers on the beach. It is a very beautiful and amazing sight, to see nature at its best.

2. Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Monsoons reach Andaman and Nicobar Islands first before they reach India. One of the most popular destinations is the Havelock Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Island. It is an eco-tourism development zone. You can enjoy the beautiful greenery or enjoy the water adventure sports like scuba diving, fishing, snorkelling etc. You can just laze on the beaches such as the Radhanagar beach or the Elephant beach. Kayaking and trekking in the jungle is also gaining popularity nowadays.

3. Cherrapunji

We have all learnt that Cherrapunji was at one time the wettest place on earth. But that record has shifted to the nearby Mawsynram. Mostly it rains early in the morning. The clouds filled with rain move from the Bay of Bengal to the Khasi hills. Cherrapunji receives rain throughout the year. It is very famous for its Living Root bridges. These bridges are shaped by manipulating the aerial roots of banyan trees. These bridges can carry around 50 people at a time. You can also do rock climbing, trekking, river kayaking etc.

4. Kovalam Beach

Kovalam beach is one of the most beautiful and serene beach in the monsoon. Most of the adventure sports and other activities are closed during the monsoon. It experiences medium to heavy rainfall. You could enjoy spice and aromatic oil massages. It is also one of the best times to savour local cuisine.

5. Valley of Flowers (Uttarakhand)

Valley of flowers is a National Park located in Uttarakhand. It is one of the most beautiful treks in India.  Furthermore it is also known for its meadows of alpine flowers like petunias, zinnias and other beautiful wild flowers. It is a beautiful landscape which hosts both flora and fauna. This is a 10km valley situated at a height of approximately 3500 metres above the sea level.

6. Thoseghar Falls (Maharashtra)

Thoseghar waterfalls is a scenic spot located near the Thoseghar village approximately 20 km from Satara city in the Konkan region of Maharashtra. There are many waterfalls located near this village. The best time to visit these falls is in the monsoon as there is a heavier flow of water during this period.

7.  Pondicherry

Pondicherry is a beautiful union territory surrounded by Tamil Nadu. It was a French colony, so it is deeply influenced by French architecture, food and culture. You will be surprised to find many locals speaking French fluently. The sea side promenade is one of the star attractions. Scuba diving, walks along the sea side and long drives make the journey to Pondicherry relaxing. You will enjoy French cuisine, bakeries, pizzas and of course fresh seafood.
