Top 5 beauty tips for spring

Spring starts in March after the winter season. It is also a season with lots of festivals being celebrated, not only in India but also across the world. Spring helps the body to recuperate, after the cold and harsh winter season and before the hot summer. It is an interim period between the winter and the summer season.

It is therefore important to take additional care of your body and hair in the spring season.

Some of the easy things that can keep your skin and body healthy are listed below

1. Hydrate your body

It is very important to drink lots of water and keep your body hydrated. Fresh fruit and vegetable juices can also give your body the much-needed water along with the necessary nutritional elements.

2. Have a Healthy and nutritional diet

A well balanced healthy diet comprising of fruits, vegetables, whole wheat and dairy products will help your body. It is advisable to include oats, brown rice, millets, soybean, carrot, beet, tomatoes, spinach, pumpkin and parsley etc.

3. Nurture your face and body

It is advisable to use natural ingredients, which are also edible, on the skin. Research indicates that more than 60% of whatever is applied on the skin enters the body. It is therefore imperative that we apply natural and edible ingredients like almond paste, basil, cucumber pack, sandalwood, honey, papaya, banana, yoghurt etc. These ingredients are natural skin cleansers and moisturizers.

4. Be gentle with your skin

It is important to be gentle while massaging, washing or scrubbing the face. Use lukewarm water and avoid extreme hot or cold water. Remove your makeup before sleeping.

Almond milk, coconut milk and apricot oil can be used as natural cleansers.

2tbsp olive oil

3tbsp wheat bran


Mix both the ingredients and gently apply it over your face and neck. Keep it for 10 minutes and then wash it with water.

2. Spring moisturizers

It is important to moisturise the skin regularly. A homemade moisturizer is easy and cheap to make.

3tbsp lettuce juice

1tsp almond oil

2tsp oatmeal powder

½tsp honey

Mix all the ingredients to form a paste and apply in on your face, neck, hands and legs. After about 10 minutes, wash it with water.

2tsp orange juice

3tsp watermelon juice

2tsp wheat bran

Mix all the ingredients and form a paste. Apply it on your face and neck. After 10 minutes, wash it off first with a little milk and then water.

Hands and feet are often the most neglected parts in your beauty regime. The easiest thing is to apply on your hands and feet, whatever remains of the face pack you have used.

1 bowl green gram flour

½ cup oats

½ cup lime juice

Mix all the ingredients and apply it on your hands and feet. Wash it off after 15-20 minutes.

5. Spring hair care

Some of the key things to be kept in mind while taking care of your hair are listed below.

  • Avoid too much exposure to sunlight.
  • Good sleep and rest are important for healthy hair.
  • Select your shampoo and conditioner according to the type of your hair. Shampoos are for your scalp while conditioners are for your hair. Therefore you need to use a good combination of shampoo and conditioner for your hair.
  • You can shampoo your hair every alternate day but you can condition your hair after every wash.
  • Use cold or lukewarm water to wash your hair. Hot water weakens the roots.
  • Gently brush or comb your hair.
  • Regularly trim your hair to avoid split ends.

 Papaya dry hair pack


½ cup papaya paste

1 egg

½ cup fresh thick coconut milk

4tbsp coconut oil

2 dashes of lavender or rosemary oil for aroma


Mix the egg with the papaya paste. Add coconut milk and a dash of lavender oil. Mix it well. Gently massage warm coconut oil on the scalp for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, apply the paste on the scalp and cover your hair with a shower cap. Keep it for around an hour and then wash it with cold water, using an appropriate hair shampoo and conditioner. This will make your hair healthy and bouncy.
