Dental treatments are expensive treatments and beyond the reach of many. Moreover, the painful nature of these treatments, deter many from going to a good dentist.

More than one sitting is needed for any dental treatment.

Simple cleaning of the teeth requires a minimum of two sittings. Due to lack of time and money, many resorts to homemade treatments.

Some of the symptoms of a toothache are –

  2. Inflammation of the gums.
  3. Tooth enamel erosion.
  4. Grinding of teeth.
  5. Sinus pressure.

Remember all these pains will not go away in a single night. It is generally advisable to see a dentist to get better and faster relief. You would need to effectively treat the cause and not the pain, as it is the right thing to do.

Let us look at some of the popular homemade remedies which may have some immediate temporary benefits, but in long run, it is always advisable to see a dentist.

Clove oil

It is one of the most common and effective ways to ease your toothache. Cloves have a natural anesthetic called eugenol, which numbs the area it touches. Take a drop of clove oil on a cotton ball and keep it on the aching tooth. However, do remember that clove oil can cause irritation on the tongue and on other sensitive parts in your mouth.

Rinsing your mouth with salt water

Saltwater cleanses the infected areas and removes all the bacteria and dirt particles in your mouth. Just take a little salt in a glass of water and keep the water in your mouth for around 3 seconds and then gargle. Though there are no long-term benefits, it is safe and also helps to clean your mouth.

Hydrogen Peroxide Rinse

Hydrogen peroxide helps in cleaning your mouth from bacteria rather them simply rinsing it. Mix identical parts of hydrogen peroxide with normal water and keep the combination in your mouth for around 40 seconds and then throw it out. It will defend you against gingivitis, which is the potential reason behind toothache pain. But this is a dangerous solution. If it is ingested inadvertently then you might have abdominal or intestinal problems.  Also if there is no right amount of water for its dilution, then it might cause your mouth to burn which can be dangerous.

Garlic

A clove of garlic has good antibiotic qualities. It can stop bacteria from attacking your teeth.

You can mash a clove of garlic and mix it with a little salt and then apply it on the affected area. Else you can just chew a clove of garlic few times a day. Remember it is a temporary relief and you might get bad breath by eating garlic.

Peppermint Tea Bags

Wet and used tea bags are used to calm sensitive teeth. Peppermint has numbing properties just like cloves, which is ideal for treating pain.

First, apply a cooled teabag directly on the throbbing area. Second, position the tea bag in the fridge for a few moments and then use it on the teeth. Keep the tea bag on the teeth for at least 15 to 20 minutes.

Again this is an organic tooth treatment, which will have temporary benefits.

Vanilla Extract

Alcoholic substances in the vanilla act as a numbing agent. Further, the fragrance of vanilla is believed to be comforting and relaxing which helps to reduce the pain.
