Ways To Build Will Power

Ways To Build Will Power

The world around us is moving at a very rapid pace, that either we are trying very hard to cope with life and win the race or we simply just lose the race. Many people today are facing new-age diseases, which are a result of a fast life. We have seen our parents or even when we were children, we had a lot of time to spare and do things which we really enjoyed. In this article, we talk about Ways To Build Will Power.

Today, many families including young children get disillusioned very early in life and just want to give up. It is thus very important to make the right choices and try to achieve our goals.

One of the most important things is to develop strong willpower and self-discipline. Both these are two separate things and will help you lead a good and healthy lifestyle.

A strong willpower will be the result of your faith in God, followed by the inner conviction that you can do any task. Your willpower is the mark of your inner strength. To succeed in life, it is important to have a strong inner strength (which is obviously God-given).

Ways To Build Will Power

Make the right choice even if it is difficult

Every morning you have the choice to get out of bed positively and start your day right. It starts with the first choice of getting up on time and doing your daily exercise when you are tempted to sleep more.

 Exercise regularly

All of us are aware of the benefits of exercising regularly. It increases our energy, improves our mood and keeps our body fit. When you exercise regularly at a pre-determined time for a certain specified period, it shows that you have a strong willpower. A strong willpower is automatically followed by good discipline.

Have your daily prayer time

Having a conversation with God will only give you positive results and enhance the quality of your life. Have a dedicated prayer time, preferably in the morning. As for me, meditating on bible scriptures gives me an immense sense of peace and comfort. All your stress and anxieties are removed, leading to clarity in thinking. Your mind is clear, which will help you in taking good and right decisions.

Make an effort to create and maintain good habits

You can create a routine of many good habits, such as early morning physical exercise, half an hour of reading books before going to bed, cutting down on social media and technology time, writing down things to be done for the day, writing down your own experiences – good, bad or ugly, fasting once a week etc.

All these good habits when diligently followed become a part of your lifestyle. Once you have cultivated these habits into your daily routine, there is not much effort needed to follow them. So encourage yourself to cultivate good and powerful habits.

Give yourself reminders

Always keep positive quotes or writings on your walls, fridge, doorpost or any area that is constantly visible. These small things will encourage and remind you to be strong when the going is tough.

As for me, I have many bible verses at different places in my house, which gives the family instant hope to face a particular situation. These visual reminders are a great source of inspiration and will enable you to keep looking ahead.

Try to set Smart Goals

To have strong willpower and discipline, it is also important to set smart goals. Your goals should be clearly defined, measurable and target oriented. You need to have clear achievement deadlines for any task taken.

You can set clear weekly, monthly or quarterly goals. Write down your strengths and weaknesses, which will either help or prevent you from achieving your goals. Now focus on building on your strengths and improving your weaknesses.

Make sure your goals are SMART Goals should be

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Timely

Don’t keep any backup plan. Give it your all

Many a time, people start off very well but they are unable to finish what they had started. They always keep a backup option if things don’t work out.

If you want to succeed in life, then do not have a 2nd and a 3rd backup, it will only take you further away from your destiny. Completely focus and put in your best effort. Even if you don’t succeed, you would have developed a strong resilience. Every successful man or woman has faced umpteen failures but they have risen up and started again.

Eliminate the clutter and make the important decisions

Our willpower is best at the beginning of the day. Every decision of ours affects our willpower reserves. It is very important not to get involved in small un-important decisions which will drain your energy. Reserve your focus and energy for the big decisions, which will have an impact on your life.

Analyse your challenges and distractions

We all fall into temptations at one time or the other. Find out what are your major distractions and then work out a strategy to counter them. If you want to lose weight, then you need to increase your willpower in avoiding all fried snacks and outside food. Stick to your daily schedule of home cooked nutritious meals with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Always motivate yourself by giving yourself rewards like a nice dress that you would like to wear after losing weight.

Some of the other things that will help you develop strong willpower and discipline are:

  • Express your opinions respectfully and be positive.
  • Have a healthy lifestyle.
  • Make a plan and follow it to completion.
  • Listen to your inner conscience and take risks.
  • Explore your talents and abilities and be an expert in that field.
  • Focus, concentrate on what you do.
  • Have a high self-esteem about yourself and respect others.

These are some of the important ways which will help you in building your willpower and self-discipline in life.
