It is summer time and the sweltering heat makes you drink more water. Your body sweats more and hence it is important to keep your body hydrated. Drinking water is very important as your body is made up of more than 60% water. Most of the time, we drink water only when we feel thirsty. It is important to inculcate the habit of drinking lots of water. Ensure that your family, including your children drink water regularly. Keep a bottle of water nearby on your workstation, study table or dining table. In my house, I have given my young children their own respective water bottles. In this way, we are also able to monitor the amount of water they drink.

Make your water interesting.

You can make your water more interesting by adding lime, fruit juice etc. Lime water is a great drink which refreshes you. Coconut water and fresh sugarcane juice are some other good options available.

Eat fresh fruits and other foods that are high in water content.

Many fruits like watermelon, sweet lime, oranges, strawberries, grapes, tomato, cucumber, zucchini etc., are water rich foods. You can include these in your diet to adequately increase your water intake, while you enjoy these foods.

Drink water before your meal times.

Drinking water before your meal time reduces your food intake, which further helps in weight loss.  Ensure that you drink water before you start eating your meals.

Keep water targets.

In order to encourage drinking water, give yourself water targets. Keep a 1 litre bottle with you and ensure that you keep refilling it. Once you have achieved your target, give yourself a small reward to keep yourself motivated to drink more water.

Also, you can motivate yourself by getting a colleague to have water targets, similar to the water targets you have kept for yourself.

Eating spicy foods also increases the intake of water. It is important to be careful, not to eat too much spicy food which can cause harm to the body.

Drink water after using the toilet.

It is important to replenish your body with fluids, after you have been to the toilet. This will ensure that your body is replenished by the lost water and it remains hydrated.

Build your water levels slowly.

It is important to build your water levels slowly. Avoid drinking lots of water suddenly. Start by drinking 3-4 glasses of water and slowly build on it. Drinking water will cleanse your body and give you a glowing skin.
